GENERAL FAQS
-
While you do not need to have snorkeling experience to join one of our tours, you do need to be able to swim and be comfortable in the ocean. Our snorkel guides can show you how to use a snorkel and will be close by if you have any troubles. We have swimming noodles to assist with floatation, however if you think you may require something additional (e.g. a lifejacket), please bring this along with you.
-
No! You can come do a ‘try dive’ with us to see what it’s all about! We will provide all the equipment you need and take you for a dive at the Busselton Jetty. This is a one off dive with an instructor and does not provide a certification for you to continue diving afterwards; however, most people love it so much they are back to do their Open Water Course straight away!
-
Generally our snorkel and dive tours are ran separately, however, if you have a group of 4 or more we can arrange this for you. Your group will need to have at least 2 scuba divers and 2 snorkellers. This is for safety reasons so nobody is entering the water on their own. Alternatively, you can add dive / snorkel guides to your booking.
-
Yes! You are more than welcome to come along. We have many others who will be doing the same. For all our unguided dives the crew will make sure everyone has a dive buddy before they enter the water. Every effort will be made to buddy people up with someone of a similar experience level, however, please note this may not always be possible. If you are concerned about being buddied up with someone you don’t know, you are able to add a dive guide in your booking and one of our experienced dive masters or instructors will guide your dive.
Please note : If you intend to freedive or undertake a technical dive at the HMAS Swan Wreck, you will need to book with your dive buddy for safety reasons.
-
Yes! Check out our Shipwrecks & Sculptures package! This includes a double dive on the HMAS Swan Wreck in the morning and either an afternoon or a night Busselton Jetty dive.
-
Our HMAS Swan dive trip is a double dive! The wreck is 114m long and more than 20m tall, so there is plenty to see on two dives – You may even need more! So that you don’t miss anything, we recommend upgrading to a guided dive and letting our experienced dive guides lead the way and show you in and around the best parts of the wreck!
-
This is a fantastic question – the only answer we can come up with is both! The Busselton Jetty is an incredible dive site, but is completely different day to night. With incredible visibility, during the day you can take in the entirety of this iconic dive site, its vibrant colours and the 300 marine species that call it home. But, when night falls the Busselton Jetty becomes alive with new creatures. Illuminated by torch light your marine encounters will be nothing short of memorable. And, there’s a glow in the dark sculpture! Check out our Daylight to Darkness package!
-
No. We do not require divers to be Advanced certified to dive the HMAS Swan Wreck. However, we do ask you to have an honest assessment of your ability and to dive within your limits.
What this means is if you are inexperienced or uncomfortable with aspects of diving such as; the hazards associated with wreck diving, understanding your computer and No Decompression Limits or controlling your buoyancy without a sea floor directly beneath you, you may consider upgrading to a guided dive, where our qualified and experienced team can assist in making sure you have a fun and safe dive.
This also means if you are an Open Water certified diver, you ensure you do not exceed 18m. The sea floor at the HMAS Swan is 32m deep, with the main deck at 18m and the crows nest at 8m – So it’s still well worth it! There is plenty to see at all depths and the visibility is often 15-20m so its highly likely you will be able to see the entire wreck. Plus, this is where most of the marine life lives!
-
This is completely up to you, but we think having a dive guide takes all the stress out of diving and makes it much more fun!
Reasons why having a guide is great:
- You’ve got an experienced professional with you every step of the way
- There is no need to worry about navigating an unfamiliar dive site
- They can help you if there is something you’re unsure about
- They know where the best spots and critter hidey holes are!
- You’ve got someone to pass your camera to so they can capture that memorable underwater moment for you!
- They will give you peace of mind to make your day is safe and enjoyable
-
Its not often our tours are cancelled, especially during the summer months, but we are at the mercy of mother nature and some things are beyond our control. If your tour is cancelled due to weather or low numbers you will be notified of this by text or email (the ones used when you made your booking) as soon as possible. We will try and arrange another suitable time for your tour, however, if we are unable to do so we will provide a voucher or refund.
-
We understand sometimes things come up. We are more than happy to reschedule your booking if availability allows. Please get in contact with us as soon as possible to let us know. If you need to change or cancel your booking, please see our booking terms and conditions.
SCUBA DIVE & SNORKEL TOURS FAQS
-
The short answer. Yes – you can!
Swan Dive generally teaches the Open Water Dive course over 3 days for many reasons. In our experience, three days is a great amount of time to learn and practice the skills and concepts required to become a high quality and safe scuba diver in the future. It allows our experienced dive instructors to spend quality time with each student and lets us have a lot of fun along the way. Diving is also physically demanding, so spreading the course over three days means you would do two dives each day, and our dive schedule allows for more diversity in the dive sites you get to visit!
Having said this, we understand not everyone has 3 days available, so it is possible to do it in 2 days. The 2 day courses can be booked online, or are available on request. Please get in contact with us for more information.
-
To start diving you need to be at least 10 years old. From the age of 10 you can complete the open water dive course and earn a Junior Open Water certification. This certification restricts you to diving with a parent/guardian or dive professional. Once you turn 15 you can upgrade this to a general Open Water Certification.
Some specialty courses have higher age limits.

Please read the medical form carefully! This questionnaire is designed to identify medical conditions that may cause issues while diving. In most cases, if you tick ‘yes’ to any of the medical questions, you need a doctor to sign this form before you come for your dive course.
We encourage you to do this as soon as possible to endure you have time to make a doctors appointment if required. We dislike nothing more than when you arrive excited for your dive course, only to discover we cant take you diving that day!

DIVE COURSES FAQS
-
We understand buying dive gear is an investment – but it has its perks! When you have your own gear it fits you perfectly so you feel much more comfortable, and, its always available when you want it! When you’re traveling far from home, sometimes hiring gear (or the heavy stuff, like tanks and weights!) can be very convenient.
At Swan Dive we offer both options! You can check out our online shop to browse equipment to buy, or click here to see our hire price list.
-
The Busselton Jetty is 1.8km long, with the underwater sculpture trail located at the very end. There are a few ways to get to the end. You can walk with your equipment, or pull it in a trolley, but, there is no way to sugar coat it – It’s a mission with all that heavy gear! Swan Dive has a limited number of trolleys available for hire, with the weight capacity to carry a maximum of 2 dive tanks.
The alternative, and our favorite option, is by boat! Our boat tours run to the end of the Busselton Jetty multiple times each day. With guided tours, that include full gear hire, they are great value for money and will make the entire experience much more enjoyable!
-
As a general recommendation scuba diving equipment requires an annual service. This includes everything from your tanks, to your BCD and regulators. These things look after us and keep us alive while we are underwater, so we need to look after them too!
We recommend getting your servicing done during the winter months or at the start of each season so everything is ready to go when you want to use it. During the peak diving season there can be extended wait times for servicing of equipment and we don’t want you to miss any opportunity to dive!
